Incense

History of Vedic Fragrance
Incense or dhoop was used for aromatherapy and worship from
time immemorial, especially in famous dynasties like the greeks, egypt, india,
or china.
It was used even for treatment of mental and physical diseases,
but also for any type of worship. The egypts had a special way of conserving
thier ancestors as mummies, were they used a special kind of guggul mixture
to preserve and prevent from decay and bad smell.
In Vedic times india and their neighbor's like china or
east asian cultures as the khmyers or hunns were very much specialized in preparing
all kinds of dhoop - / Incense Mixtures. And they used it for all kind of moods,
festivities, pujas, homas, yagyas and even love affairs and peaceful emotions.
Ayurvedic doctors of those times were able toselect the perfect mixture of
incense while treating the patient, to release him from stress and anxiety.
In those days a special way of extracting oil essences with
water destillation and solar destillation was used to get super mild and very
natural flavour from plants, flowers and herbs - which were later on used in
preparing mixtures for dhoop and incense production in ayurvedic clinics and
treatments.
Only in the 20th century the chemical use of unnatural flavours
started to spoil the dhoop and incense recipes and a great damage was done
to this industry. Some of the reason is the much more cheaper price of those
chemical substitutes, but also due to the reason of scarcity of rare scents
like Sandalwood, Agarwood, Aguru, Gorocana and Musk which are nowadays forbidden
to sell or trade on the market in big quantity. Unfortunatly most of the modern
dhoop and incense industry using articial flavour to sell the product in the
most highest profit, without thinking of the consequences. Some of those unnatural
ingredients have toxic and even dangerous substances inside, and risk to be
banned from the market.
Also from the ayurvedic point of view: by leaving out the
proper ingredient from the natural source and replacing it with a chemical
substitute, the ancient recipe dont work anymore on the subtle body of ours.
Those the new chemical scents has spoiled the fair and ecological
trade of dhoop and incense around the world.
