Namegiving ceremony (Namakarana samskara) To give the new born child a good name and the blessings of family members and friends makes this ceremony an important one in vedic culture. It is normally performed on or after the 11th. day from birth and all family members come together and give their blessings. Vedic hymns will be chanted and a small fire will be ignited. It takes normally 2 hours to perform the ritual, excluding the preparation. Travel cost and expenses (like fire wood, fruits etc.) are not included and have to be talked over personally. In general there is a donation given to the purohit and the value for the ceremony is balanced by this. Please see under Donation the guidelines.
